My first property was a one bedroom, ground floor Tyneside flat within “The Avenues” area of Bensham, purchased back then for what seemed like a fortune, although today you’d be hard pressed to get a new family hatchback for the same price!  I sold the flat just after starting my career in estate agency, yet what still stands out today is the lack of any genuine enthusiasm from the agents who came to value the property.  I must stress times have changed a lot since then and not one of the agents I met continues to cover the Gateshead area.

The approach seemed very much as if my property was “just another flat”.  It wasn’t.  This was my home.  I was proud of my wobbly walls, pattern carpet, noisy boiler and mis-matched furniture.  It may not have been perfectly finished, in fact that’s too kind, it was neither perfect nor finished.  But, it was mine.  I saved hard for the deposit and even harder to pay the mortgage each month, creating a home which made me smile, a place of comfort, security, independence and orange walls (the tin said terracotta!) Too emotionally attached? Absolutely!  So, to be met with a series of estate agents who failed to understand that this was not “just another flat”, that in my mind the value was priceless, was a deflating and strangely alienating experience.

Shortly after this time I got the opportunity to “Value” my first property, I bounded around the house with nervous enthusiasm complimenting everything from the garden shed to the cat, just to make sure the owner knew that I really did appreciate her home.  

Realising my ambition to open greenwoodjohnson is a culmination of my belief that estate agency is so much more than bricks and mortar.  A customers home is quite often their most valuable asset and almost certainly their most cherished.  We will never dismiss any property as “just another house” or “yet one more flat for the internet”.  Our passion is to get to know your home, take in its best features and shout about them.  Buyers will register with an estate agent on a practical basis, number of bedrooms, location or transport links, but more importantly will also make an emotional investment in the home they buy.  Even an investor seeking a “buy-to-let” or “refurbishment project” will be mindful of elements which make the property feel like a home and therefore more easily sold in the future.  Being honest, when was the last time you spoke to someone who was considering buying a property they actually didn’t like?

Understanding the pressures of modern living for both sellers and buyers we made the decision to open later on an evening than any other Low Fell estate agency office, with our team available until at least 6.00pm weekdays, plus open each Saturday and every bank holiday.
